Não serei a pessoa que pior conhece a envolvente da Quinta do Outeiro (já que passo férias nesta casa desde que nasci), mas sei que tenho tendência para fazer o mesmo tipo de actividades que me dão gozo. Caminhadas, apanhar fruta, comer um gelado na Emanha, surfar no Cabedelo ou beber um copo à noite na Figueira, são clássicos. Pensei que seria interessante explorar outras possibilidades.

Um pouco no espírito “se não sabe porque é que não pergunta”, resolvi contactar a Câmara Municipal de Montemor-o-Velho e recolher informações sobre o que é que este município tem para oferecer.

Fui recebida prontamente pela Dra. Sandra Lopes, directora do departamento de cultura e turismo, que de forma directa e concisa me foi esclarecendo e confirmando muito do meu conhecimento. 

Montemor-o-Velho tem um dos castelos mais bem conservados do país e dispõe de um serviço educativo que oferece actividades para todas as idades. A igreja matriz é também muito bonita.

Seguramente vale a pena ir visitar a igreja da Nossa Senhora do Ó, em Reveles que, por ter uma localização privilegiada, é conhecida igualmente como um importante miradouro desta região. De facto, oferece uma paisagem lindíssima sobre o Mondego.

A povoação de Verride, bem conservada e recuperada, vale a pena visitar pelo seu valor patrimonial. Já a povoação de Pereira é famosa pela igreja da Misericórdia e as suas queijadas.

A propósito de queijadas! É também difícil não ganhar peso por estes lados porque a gastronomia é riquíssima! Os doces conventuais são muito variados (pinhas, pastéis de Tentúgal, queijadas de Pereira, barrigas de freira, queijadas de Santa Clara, etc.). 

O arroz doce é clássico e a lampreia é tida como uma das melhores do país e, na Primavera, o “Festival do Arroz e da Lampreia” faz prova disso mesmo.

Para quem gosta de artesanato, também é possível visitar e, eventualmente participar, nas oficinas de cestaria, madeiras ou barro, existentes no município. 

À quarta-feira, decorre a Feira Quinzenal de Montemor-o-Velho, um local cheio de vida e privilegiado para aquisição de produtos regionais de qualidade.

A Feira Anual é a 8 de Setembro, feriado municipal e dia da Nossa Senhora da Natividade, e vale mesmo a pena ir! Desde roupa, passando por produtos regionais, máquinas agrícolas, animais, legumes, fruta, actividades culturais e recreativas, vale tudo!

No que respeita às minhas questões sobre actividade ligadas à natureza, a Dra. Sandra conta que daqui a 1 ano já haja percursos pedestres oficializados e devidamente sinalizados. Pretendem ainda requalificar uma parte do rio Mondego que passa nesta Vila, criando infra-estruturas para a pesca desportiva e condições para um melhor aproveitamento desta área. 

Para já, a freguesia da Ereira oferece uma praia fluvial muito bonita, onde já tive a oportunidade de ir com o meu amigo Tedy, o ano passado.

Resumindo, do que pude apurar, actualmente os programas culturais e turísticos do concelho estão organizados em quatro grandes áreas: natureza, património, gastronomia e artesanato.

Como não existe nenhum operador turístico no território, a Câmara Municipal de Montemor-o-Velho, tem procurado colmatar esta necessidade, informando qualquer pessoa que a procure e ajudando-a a desenhar programas de actividades e circuitos culturais/turísticos. I am not the person who worst knows the surroundings of Quinta do Outeiro
 (I have vacantioned in this house since I was born), but I know that I tend to always do the same kind of activities. Hiking, picking fruit, eating ice cream in Emanha, surfing in Cabedelo beach or having a drink in the evening in Figueira da Foz, are some of the classic ones. I thought it would be interesting to explore other possibilities.

A bit in the spirit "if you do not know why don't you ask", I decided to contact the Municipal Council of Montemor-o-Velho and gather information about what this municipality has to offer.

I was received promptly by Dr. Sandra Lopes, director of the department of culture and tourism, who directly and concisely clarified and confirmed my knowledge.

Montemor-o-Velho has one of the best preserved castles in the country and offers an educational service that proposes activities for all ages. The mother church is also very beautiful.

It is surely worth going to visit the church of Nossa Senhora do Ó, in Reveles which, because of its privileged location, is also known as an important belvedere of this region. In fact, it presents a beautiful view of the landscape of the Mondego river.

The village of Verride, well preserved and restored, is worth visiting for its patrimonial value. The town of Pereira is famous for the church of the Misericordia and its cheesecakes.

About cheesecakes! It is also difficult not to gain weight in this part of the country because the gastronomy is so rich! The convent sweets are very varied (pinnacles, pastels of Tentúgal, cheesecakes of Pereira, nun bellies, cheesecakes of Santa Clara, etc.).

The sweet rice is a classic and the lamprey is considered one of the best in the country. In fact, you can come in the Spring and go to the "Rice and Lamprey Festival", and be the judge of that.

For those who like crafts, it is also possible to visit and eventually participate in the basketry, wood or clay workshops, that existe in the municipality.

On Wednesday, the Biweekly Fair of Montemor-o-Velho takes place. Full of life it is a privileged spot for the acquisition of quality regional products.

The Annual Fair is on the 8th of September, the municipal holiday and the day of Nossa Senhora da Natividade, and it's really worth going! From clothing, to regional products, agricultural machinery, animals, vegetables, fruit, cultural and recreational activities, everything happens!

With regard to my questions about activity related to nature, Dr. Sandra says that in 1 year's time there will be pedestrian paths officially designed and marked. They also intend to requalify a part of the Mondego river, creating infrastructures for sport fishing and conditions for a better use of this area.

For now, the parish of Ereira offers a very beautiful river beach, where I had the opportunity to go with my friend Tedy last year.

To sum up, as far as I could tell, at present the cultural and touristic programs of the county are organized in four major areas: nature, heritage, gastronomy and handicrafts.

As there is no touristic operator in the territory, the Municipality of Montemor-o-Velho has sought to fill this need, informing anyone who seeks it and helping them to design programs of activities and cultural/touristic circuits.
